NGO (1996-1999)
In 1996 the Soros FoundationHungary launched a Dial-Up E-mail and Internet
Access Grant Program for civil service organizations. C3 provided the
technical background for the three-year program. The successful applicants
who received dial-up Internet service with full Internet access, e-mail and
homepage hosting took part in C3's free e-mail, Internet and web editing
courses. C3 also maintained a telephone help desk service to assist the
NGO's in resolving eventual problems with their computers and Internet access.
An important result of this grant program is the increasing number of web
pages with information on Hungarian NGOs.
The grants expired at the end of 1999; however, the mailboxes and homepages
may stay on C3 servers.
Web pages of the grantees -- almost a thousand non-profit organizations,
several hundred school libraries, self-developing schools, 20 pedagogical
institutes, 26 service points of the National Pedagogical Institute,
community schools and city libraries can be visited via the link
collection of C3. |
