ArtsLink Announces 2002 Independent Projects Awards ArtsLink has announced awards for the fourth cycle of its Independent
Projects program. This initiative allows Central and Eastern European
artists and arts managers to build upon established contacts with U.S.
arts organizations. This year's awards, selected by panel review from 20
proposals, will enable 6 artists and arts managers to undertake projects
in the United States.
Awards went to: Boris Bakal of Zagreb, Croatia and Katarina Pejovic of
Ljubljana, Slovenia who will work with The Kitchen in New York City on a
multimedia performance project; Jaroslaw Flicinski of Gdansk, Poland who
will be in residence at the Chinati Foundation in Marfa, Texas; video
artist Kai Kaljo of Tallinn, Estonia who will work with the Center for
Research in Computing and the Arts at the University of California, San
Diego; visual artist Andreja Kuluncic of Zagreb, Croatia who will
undertake a project at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota;
and dance arts manager Cosmin Manolescu of Bucharest, Romania who will
work with dance companies and presenting organizations in Pittsburgh, New
York, Philadelphia, and San Francisco.
Since 1999 ArtsLink has awarded 27 Independent Projects grants. ArtsLink
also provides ArtsLink Projects awards that enable U.S. arts professionals
to undertake projects in Central and Eastern Europe and Residencies awards
to U.S. arts organizations to support residencies for East and Central
European artists and arts managers.
ArtsLink is a public-private partnership of CEC International Partners,
the National Endowment for the Arts, the Trust for Mutual Understanding,
and the Ohio Arts Council with additional funding from the Howard Gilman
Foundation, the Kettering Fund, and the Milton and Sally Avery Foundation.
ArtsLink is managed by CEC International Partners, a not-for-profit
organization with over 35 years experience in building relationships in
Russia and Eastern and Central Europe.
