Text: ICAN WEBSITE http://ican.artnet.org/ican/ Website's Strategic Importance As a media which strives to be »the ultimate source on art from central & eastern europe, and beyond« the ICAN website represents an exclusive public platform, which enables the acknowledgment, evaluation and presentation of the impact and importance of this regional network as a whole; the international promotion of the network's current activities and the activities of the individual members with respect to their geopolitical context; network’s permanent dynamic and vital presence within the international contemporary art context. Context As ICAN is only one of the numerous existing cultural networks (on the market and on the Internet), it is essential that it maintains and cultivates its uniqueness: the striving for an open society through a critical and engaged approach within the field of contemporary art itself, as well as within its broader socio-political context. The individual 20 SCCA offices had a rather uniform start, but later on developed their policies according to local contexts and needs. During the spin-off period, this process took on even more radical dimensions, and consequently, facilitation of their communication and knowledge exchange through the website took on an even more vital importance. ============ Content by principal sections: Calendar of Events Announcements and archive of the events (exhibitions, conferences, workshops, festivals, etc.) produced, supported or recommended by ICAN’s members. Available Publications List of past and recent publications (books, catalogues, periodicals, artists’ books, CD-Roms, etc.) by the members. Information includes a description, ISBN and contact for further inquiries and purchase. ICAN Reader Exclusive compilation of theoretical and critical texts (presently over 70 items written over the past 20 years) from all over the region, as selected by the individual centers. This compilation presents anthological writings on contemporary art issues, some translated into English for the first time! People and Organizations List of members: organizations and individual members, with links to their homepages and emails.
