Róza El-Hassan Self-Connected Tree Mixed media (white ink on colour photograph), 200 x 400 cm, 1995-96 The two snapshots were taken of the exact same subject, with a split second between - just about as much as between two frames of film; nevertheless, in that split second, everything changed: the wind blew the branches, and not one single leaf remained where it was in the previous flash.
According to my original plan, every single leaf should have been connected "to itself," but within three weeks, I was able to identify only a fraction of the leaves. When the exhibition opened, that partial phase was visible.
