SOLID COMPONENT

More power in every byte

SOLID Server is an industrial-strength relational database management system. When we say industrial strength, we don't mean steel mills and coal mines. We mean diamonds and lasers: SOLID Server requires as little as 1 MB of RAM and 2 MB of disk space. It doesn't take much hardware.

Don't be fooled by the size

SOLID Server is powerful and complete. It provides all the features you would expect to find in an industrial-strength database server. Replication, stored procedures, row-level transaction management - you name it.

SOLID Server runs on anything from a Windows notebook PC to RISC UNIX environments. It is built on multi-thread architecture to exploit the full power of symmetric multiprocessing environments. SOLID Server supports variable length data and Binary Large Objects up to 2 GB. There are no limits to the number of tables, attributes, rows, keys or key parts.

All on two diskettes, all for one price

SOLID Server is a care-free component that can easily be embedded in high-volume database applications. It provides the performance and reliability required of a mission-critical database server, with a fraction of the hardware requirements and administration costs.

Towards true freedom of choice

SOLID Server complies with ANSI SQL2 and X/Open SQL standards.
What about performance? SOLID Server has a native SAG CLI and Microsoft ODBC interface, without any intervening software layers to slow down transactions. It provides maximum performance within the standards.
Because we adhere strictly to these standards, you are not tied to any particular hardware, development tools or system software. You are free to choose the tools that are best for you.

Develop it on a notebook, run it anywhere

SOLID Server is the first RDBMS solution that is fully scalable from a single-user Windows notebook to symmetric multiprocessing and RISC UNIX environments. SOLID Server supports all major operating systems, networks and communication protocols, providing a smooth migration path to large multi-vendor solutions.

A uniform SQL API is available in all environments. SOLID 's database file format is binary compatible across platforms. So you can create a database in Windows on a notebook PC, for example, and then copy it directly into a UNIX platform.

Depend on it

SOLID Server is engineered for continuous operation in mission-critical applications.

All administrative functions can be performed online. Backups and checkpoints, for example, can also be automated with timed commands.

In the case of a system malfunction such as a power failure, SOLID Server automatically performs a roll-forward recovery, returning the database to the state it was in when the error occurred. All completed transactions are read from the transaction log, so SOLID Server recovers from a total system shutdown with its data integrity intact. When data must be absolutely secure, SOLID Server optionally offers hot standby replication.

Read and write, don't wait

SOLID Server separates active new data from older, more stable data. The small active index is the main memory Bonsai Tree, which stores new data by maintaining multi-version information with time dimensions. More stable data is stored in the storage server.

Because of the time dimension of the Bonsai Tree, each transaction has its own consistent view of the database - making locking unnecessary. When the transaction writes data, it creates new versions visible only to itself. When the transaction commits, SOLID Server checks that no conflicting writes were made by simultaneous transactions.

This multi-version concurrency control never causes operations to wait for locks to be released. All data is always available and consistent. Standard row level locking is also supported.

One package, one price

SOLID SQL Editor is a powerful tool for executing SQL queries and commands.

The SOLID Server package includes all the utilities needed for programming and administering an enterprise system. All relevant network protocols are supported. SOLID Remote Control enables you to administer all of the database servers in a network from a single workstation, and to observe status information on each server. With it you can generate backups either online or in response to a timed command.

SOLID SQL Editor is a powerful tool for executing SQL queries and commands. It has an easy-to-use GUI. With SQL Editor you can work in either interactive or batch mode, have multiple connections to various servers, and save or print query results.
