INTERNATIONAL CONTEMPORARY ART NETWORK ASSOCIATION i_CAN is an open international network, registered in The Netherlands as a public-benefit organization. i_CAN's mission is to encourage, support, and provide a framework for international collaboration in the field of contemporary visual arts and culture, involving artists, art critics and writers, theoreticians, curators and art administrators from Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). i_CAN is a platform for cross-cultural exchange and collaboration. i_CAN's goals are: i_CAN's activities include collecting, maintaining and distributing information on contemporary art from the CEE region and other member countries, building a structure for collaborative and exchange projects among its members and with external international contemporary art institutions, initiating international contemporary art projects and offering training possibilities for the members. i_CAN was founded in 1999 on the basis of the Soros Centers for Contemporary Arts Network (1991-1999). Its services are grounded on the unique resources (documentation, expertise, infrastructure) accumulated within the SCCA Network. i_CAN has institutional and individual members. Any individual or not-for-profit institution working in the field of contemporary arts, respecting the mission of i_CAN and fulfilling its goals may become a member. All members contribute a membership fee. i_CAN members take part in annual meetings of the association, are included in informational publications and the website of i_CAN, receive access to contemporary arts documentation and databases maintained by i_CAN, may receive professional assistance and advice from other i_CAN members, participate in the development and realization of joint projects of i_CAN, and have access to funding produced by i_CAN for its projects. i_CAN's ultimate authority is the General Assembly.
