Remix a 2006 novemberében két prágai kortárs művészeti kiállítóhelyen, a Galerie NoDban és a C2C galériában bemutatott, Tamara Moyzes és Zuzana Štefková által rendezett CZECHPOINT című kiállítás anyagából, kiegészítve további, elsősorban magyar művészek munkáival.

A dunaújvárosi megnyitó alkalmából 2007. február 27-én kedden 16 órakor ingyenes busz indul a Mátyás Pince előtti buszparkolóból, az Erzsébet híd pesti hídfőjétől. A busz kb. 22 órakor érkezik vissza Budapestre.

Across the Hills, 2006

A budapesti Liget Galériában és a dunaújvárosi Kortárs Művészeti Intézetben bemutatásra kerülő 1/4 magyar című nemzetközi kiállítás olyan kritikai kifejezésformákat térképez fel, amelyeken keresztül a művészek az egyént körülvevő, sokszor adottnak és ebből kifolyólag állandónak tekintett politikai, társadalmi, gazdasági és kulturális rendszereket, illetve azok logikáját elemzik, kérdőjelezik meg, vagy szembesítik alternatívákkal. A kiállított munkák vitalitása abból ered, hogy az elméleti felvetések megélt helyzetek tapasztalataira épülnek.

A kiállítás előzményeként tavaly Prágában megrendezett Czechpoint tárlat a politikai és társadalmi kirekesztés, illetve átjárhatóság témáira összpontosított, és közép-európai művészek munkái mellett mexikói, izraeli és moldáv vendégkurátorok válogatásait mutatta be. A mostani remix újrakeveri a kiállítók névsorát és a tematikai súlypontokat. A Liget Galériában és a Kortárs Művészeti Intézetben látható művek egy része azt vizsgálja, hányféle összetevő alakítja az identitást, s hogy ez az (ön)meghatározás mennyire állandó. Más munkák az egyén szintjéről a társadalom, a nemzet, a nemzetközi relációk, valamint a kultúra és a vallás síkjára mozdítják el ezt a kérdésfelvetést.

A kiállítás címe a szlovák Viktor Frešo egyik 2004-es munkájára utal, amelyben a helyi magyarellenes polgármester tévés kirohanására azzal reagált, hogy az 1/4 magyar vagyok és 3/4  részt büszke rá feliratot fújta festékkel a zsolnai galéria falára. Az 1/4 magyar című kiállítás arra is rákérdez, hogy miként módosul egy kritikai állásfoglalás értelme, ha más környezetbe helyeződik át, illetve arra, hogy művészeti munkák segítségével közelebb kerülhetünk-e tőlünk távoleső, általunk kevésbé ismert konfliktushelyzetekhez, témakörökhöz; hogy képesek vagyunk-e más szemszögből tekinteni saját környezetünkre?

For the opening event in Dunaújváros, a bus is hired to transport audiences. The bus leaves on February 27, at 4 p.m. from the parking lot in front of Mátyás Pince restaurant, Bp. V., Március 15. tér. The bus is planned to return by 10 p.m. the same night.

The show 1/4 Hungarian to be presented in Liget Gallery, Budapest and the Institute of Contemporary Art – Dunaújváros maps ways of critical enunciations through which artists interrogate, critique, or offer alternatives to, the political, social, economic and cultural regimes that the individual is often inclined to view as given and, therefore, unchanging or unchangable. The artworks on view are marked by an impressive vitality which springs from the fact that their theoretical concerns grow out of lived experience.

The original version of the present show, the Czechpoint exhibition in Prague last Winter concentrated on issues of political and social exclusion or permeability, and featured Central European artists as well as curatorial sub-projects sampling artists from Mexico, Israel and Moldavia. Our current remix re-shuffles both the list of participating artists and the thematic foci of the exhibition. Part of the artworks in this selection explore the various factors that shape identity and the stability of the resulting identifications. Some other works leave the question of personal identity to examine how identity construction operates at large: on the level of society, the nation, international relations, culture or religion.

The title of the present show refers to a 2004 work of the Slovakian artist Viktor Frešo when he, in reaction to the anti-Hungarian media statements of the local mayor, sprayed his own statement on the wall of the gallery of Zilina, Slovakia: I’m 1/4 Hungarian and I’m 3/4 proud of it. Thus the exhibition 1/4 Hungarian also searches the ways the meaning and interpretation of a critical enunciation might vary in any different context. Questions whether artworks may help us relate to events and conflict situtations that take place elsewhere, or whether we can develop an ability to view our immediate reality from a new, perhaps relativizing perspective, are also addressed.
